Vol. 7 No. 30

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TELEPHONIC FACILITIES FOR MOATE.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that twelve subscribers in the town of Moate have signed the requisite forms for the installation of telephonic facilities in that town, and whether, in view of this, it is intended to proceed further in the matter.

As a result of a canvass, 12 persons at Moate have agreed to become subscribers to a local Exchange on certain conditions. The matter is receiving special consideration, and it is hoped to come to a decision shortly.

Could the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs say if there is any particular date on which this business could be definitely arranged? This matter has been going on for the past two and a half years, and it is nearly time a definite date was mentioned as to when facilities would be given.

It is impossible to name a date for the reason that the whole subject of basic charges is being considered, and it is thought by my Department that a modification of those terms is essential to an extension of the telephone system.
