Vol. 8 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COMMANDEERED MOTOR CAR.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that a Radco motor cycle, valued at £50, and a Ford 5-seater car, valued £225, were commandeered by National Forces on the 30th April, 1922, from Mr. W.C. Reynell, Ballymacargy, Co. Westmeath, and whether as Mr. Reynell has received no compensation for the loss of trade caused thereby suitable compensation will be paid.

A Radco motor cycle, which is understood to be the property of Mr. Reynell, was found in Ballymacargy Barracks on its being taken from Irregulars, and a Ford car, the property of Mr. Reynell, was commandeered, as it was reported that it was being used in the interests of Irregulars.

Mr. Reynell's solicitor, Mr. J.J. Macken, of Dominick Street, Mullingar, was written to on the 5th of December last for particulars of the car and cycle for purposes of investigation, and an Army officer has since called on Mr. Macken and requested that the information should be supplied, but it has not yet been furnished.

No claim for compensation can be admitted in respect of any loss of trade sustained by Mr. Reynell.
