Vol. 8 No. 16

DÁIL IN COMMITTEE. - AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE (EGGS) BILL, 1924—FROM THE SEANAD (RESUMED).

We reported Progress on amendment 9: "In Section 14, sub-section (3) the word `or' in line 23 deleted and the word `and' substituted therefor." I have considered this amendment and I think while it is a moot point whether "or" would not effect our purpose better, when all is said and done, I think the word "and" meets the case.

I understand that the Minister is advised that "or" equals "and," and that his purpose would be satisfied by the insertion of "and" instead of "or." If "or" equals "and" then my name equals "a soused gurnet."

Amendment put and agreed to.

Mr. HOGAN

Amendment 10 from the Seanad reads: In Section 14, sub-section (3), immediately after the word "marked" in line 25, the words "and the packages in which such eggs are so packed shall also be marked" inserted. It is necessary to have powers to mark the packages as well as the eggs.

Amendment put and agreed to.

Mr. HOGAN

Amendment 11 reads: "In Section 15, sub-section (1) the words `and quality' in line 32 deleted." The grade includes quality. Hence the words are not necessary, they are redundant.

Amendment put and agreed to.

Mr. HOGAN

Amendment 12 reads: "In the Schedule, page 11, immediately after line 44, the following words inserted:—`Deposit on application for registration in the register of exporters... five pounds.' " This is consequential and due to the change in the procedure for collecting fees. It is consequential on the amendment which we discussed at length already.

Amendment put and agreed to.
Ordered that the amendments be reported to the Dáil.
