Vol. 8 No. 17

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - LOUGHREA OLD AGE PENSION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether sworn affidavits and letter from Parish Priest have been forwarded to him stating that Mr. Con Quigley, Loughrea, a claimant for an old age pension, has reached the age of 70 years; whether he has been recommended for a pension by the Pension Sub-Committee, and if he will state what are the reasons for the refusal of the Department to sanction the granting of his pension.

The claimant referred to by the Deputy was recommended for an old age pension of 10s. a week by the Loughrea Pension Sub-Committee on 17th April, 1924. The claim came before me on appeal on the ground of age. No birth or baptismal certificate was forwarded. Sworn affidavits by two neighbours were submitted, but as they gave no details or reasons for the statements made they were not regarded as sufficient or definite proof of age, and the claim was disallowed on the 5th of May last.
