Vol. 9 No. 12

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - CASTLE FOGARTY ESTATE.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he is aware that Mr. James Cusack, whose present address is South Lodge, Kilkea Castle, Mageney, Co. Kildare, was promised a portion of the townland of Garryvenis, on the Castle Fogarty Estate, North Tipperary, and whether, as this was not done, he will enquire if some other portion of the estate can be found for this man, who was connected with the property for forty years.

Mr. HOGAN

The lands referred to in the first part of the question appear to be 168 acres, 3 roods, 37 perches, acquired by the Land Commission in the townland of Garryvenis, on the estate of General Ryan, County Tipperary. The Land Commission did not see their way to allot James Cusack a parcel of these lands and did not promise to do so.

Arising out of the Minister's answer, as this man was allocated on this land for a number of years, is there any chance that he will get some portion of neighbouring land?

Mr. HOGAN

The man in question was offered a holding an another estate and refused it.

Can the Minister state whether there will be any procedure laid down as to how these lands will be divided; that is, who is to get the lands?

Mr. HOGAN

For the answer to the question the Deputy should refer to Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 32 of the Land Act of 1923.
