asked the Minister for Defence whether a claim for dependents allowance was received from Mrs. Margaret McCabe, Portlester, Ballivor, County Meath, in respect of her son, Quartermaster-Sergeant Bernard McCabe, Army No. 30221, who attested at Mullingar on 17th April, 1922, and who was discharged on 13th July, 1923, from Portobello Barracks; whether he is aware that prior to joining the National Army he contributed 30s. per week towards the maintenance of his home, and whether he will have this claim re-investigated with a view to having payment made.
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DEPENDENTS ALLOWANCE.
I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to a question in this case asked by Cathal O'Seanain, then a Deputy, on the 10th July, 1923, wherein it was stated that Mrs. McCabe's claim had been disallowed. Investigations had showed that her son's contribution to the home did not amount to 12/- a week, the minimum required by regulations before an allowance might be issued.
I regret that I see no grounds necessitating a reinvestigation of the claim.
