Vol. 9 No. 21

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - CYCLISTS AND LIGHTING-UP TIME.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that a considerable number of cyclists using certain roads round Dublin, particularly the Dublin-Nass Road via Inchicore and Dolphin's Barn, display no lights at all long after lighting-up time, and whether he will draw the attention of the Gárda Síochána to this matter.

The attention of the Gárda Síochána has already been drawn to this matter. During the past year there have been 72 prosecutions against persons found cycling without lights after lighting-up time on the roads between the city of Dublin and Nass. I am, accordingly, satisfied that the Gárda in the districts concerned are taking all possible steps to enforce the provisions of the Lights on Vehicles Act, 1907, and that it is hardly necessary for me again to draw their attention to the matter.
