Vol. 10 No. 7

LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL, 1924—MESSAGE FROM THE SEANAD.

The following Message has been received from the Seanad:-"The Seanad has this day passed the Local Government Bill, 1924, in which it has inserted the subjoined amendments, in which the agreement of the Dáil is desired." The amendments number 111. Is there any intention of fixing the time when this business will be transacted?

I propose to ask the Dáil to give the earliest possible consideration to these amendments and, if the House agree, I would ask the Dáil to take up this business on Tuesday next.

Would it be convenient for the Minister, in circulating the amendments, to indicate which of them he proposes to advise acceptance of? Some of them were obviously inspired by the Minister himself. Others may have been accepted by the Minister. If we had some indication by the Minister as to the amendments he proposes to accept, it would save a great deal of inquiry and the looking-up of Local Government enactments.

It is intended to issue a statement to the effect suggested. It will give information to Deputies as to which of these amendments, or how many of them, will be proposed for acceptance by the Minister.

The amendments will be circulated to-night and should reach Deputies in the morning, at latest.

Consideration of Seanad amendments to Local Government Bill fixed for Tuesday, 10th March, 1925.
