Vol. 10 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CANADIAN VESSEL DAMAGED ENTERING COBH HARBOUR.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the s.s. Mount Laurier, of the Canadian Pacific Line, while entering the Port of Cork recently, and not under control, with her steering gear damaged, touched the ground near the entrance to the port; whether he caused a survey to be made before the vessel left the port, and, if so, with what result.

A surveyor was despatched to Cobh immediately information as to this casualty was received. He spent the day of the 28th ultimo on board making the fullest inspection possible of the damage. The vessel was making no water, and the surveyor's examination, together with the report of the diver who went down to examine the hull, showed that she was in a seaworthy condition to proceed, without passengers, to Liverpool. She was conveyed by a tug from Cobh and reached Liverpool on the 29th ultimo.
