Vol. 13 No. 11

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - WESTPORT PRE-TRUCE CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Finance whether an application has been received from Mr. Michael Tunney, of Derrykillew, Cushlough, Westport. Co. Mayo, for compensation for injuries alleged to have been received at the hands of British forces in Eglinton Barracks, Galway, on the 12th January, 1921, and for a suit of clothes which was taken from him in Renmore Military Hospital; whether any inquiries have been made as a result of the receipt of these applications, and, if so, with what result.

An application for compensation in respect of personal injuries was submitted to the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee by the person named by the Deputy. Sufficient particulars were contained in the application form to enable the Committee to arrive at the conclusion that no serious or permanent injury was sustained and that no impairment of earning capacity resulted. The Committee accordingly recommended that no compensation should be paid. This decision was conveyed to the applicant's solicitor on the 25th October, 1924.

As regards the claim in respect of the suit of clothes, this was ruled outside the scope of enquiry of the Compensation (Ireland) Commission.
