Vol. 13 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TONNAGE OF CATTLE BOATS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is in a position to state the tonnage of the average cattle boat plying between Dublin on the one hand and the respective ports of Birkenhead, Manchester, Heysham and Glasgow on the other, and, further, if he can give figures as to the comparative tonnage of the Canadian cattle boats from Montreal to the above-mentioned British ports.

The average net registered tonnage of vessels carrying cattle from Dublin to the ports mentioned is as follows:—

Net tons.

Birkenhead and Liverpool

724

Manchester

414

Heysham

364

Glasgow and Greenock

555

I regret I have no information available from which the corresponding average for the net registered tonnage of vessels carrying cattle from Montreal to the above-mentioned ports might be obtained.

Would the Minister make an endeavour to obtain that information?

The Deputy should, I think, put down another question.
