Vol. 13 No. 21

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - OLD AGE PENSION TRANSFERS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether any reciprocal arrangement exists between the Government of Saorstát Eireann and Northern Ireland by which old age pensioners can transfer their pension accounts for payment on change of residence from one State to the other, and, if so, whether he will expedite the transfer of the account of Patrick Cunningham, of Hawkfield, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, old age pensions No. 1867, to the Donegall Street Post Office, as he intends to reside in future with his daughter, Mrs. Carmody, at 61 North Queen Street, Belfast.

No such reciprocal arrangement exists, and I am not, therefore, in a position to act as suggested in the second part of the question.

In view of the talk there was last week about friendly relations and sugar-plums, would the Minister see his way to have some arrangements made by which persons such as I have referred to could have their pensions transferred? Surely the Ministry are not going to keep up the boundary and prevent old age pensioners from going to their relatives?
