Vol. 14 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - EDENDERRY UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has received a complaint from John Byrne, Cloncannon, Edenderry, Offaly, regarding non-payment of Unemployment Insurance Benefit, and if he can now state whether he is prepared to sanction payment of amount claimed or the reason why he is unable to do so.

Mr. John Byrne, Cloncannon, Edenderry, lodged a claim to unemployment benefit on 16th November, 1925, which was disallowed by the Insurance Officer on the ground that he did not satisfy the condition that he was unemployed and unable to obtain suitable employment. Mr. Byrne's appeal against this decision was fully considered by the Court of Referees, at which the claimant was present and gave evidence in the hearing of his case. The recommendation of the Court of Referees was that benefit be disallowed. The Insurance Officer accepted the Court's recommendation, and in these circumstances benefit cannot be paid to Mr. Byrne.
