Vol. 14 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SALE OF ARMS AND AMMUNITION.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has received an application from Michael J. Campion, grocer and hardware merchant, Errill, Ballybrophy, Leix, for a permit to sell arms and ammunition, and if he is prepared to issue the necessary permit, or state the reason why he is unable to do so.

Mr. Campion has applied to be registered as a dealer in firearms and ammunition. I am not prepared, however, to accede to his application as his business premises are situate 4½ miles from the nearest Gárda Barracks, and a sufficient number of firearms dealers have already been registered in the neighbourhood in which Mr. Campion carries on his business, to meet the requirements of the public.

Is the Minister aware that there is a Gárda barracks within a mile and a half of this dealer and not within four miles and a half?

It is not a question of the nearness of the dealer to the Gárda station. It is a question of the nearness of Campion's business premises to the Gárda barracks, and I am informed that it is four and a half miles away.
