Vol. 14 No. 1

ELECTRICITY SUPPLY (SPECIAL POWERS) BILL, 1925—FROM THE SEANAD.

I move: "That the Dáil agree with the Seanad in the following amendment:—

"At the end of Section 3 a new sub-section added as follows—

"(2) Where the premises to which a supply of electricity is proposed to be given under this section are situate in the area of supply of an authorised undertaker, the Minister shall not approve of the giving of the supply under this section unless or until he is satisfied that such authorised undertaker is either unable or unwilling to give the supply."

This is an amendment which, I think, a Deputy intended to move on the Report Stage here, but notice of it had not been given in time. His motion was consequent on a statement of mine that an amendment, framed in this way, for the purpose of giving protection to statutory undertakers within the areas handed over to them would be accepted. I explained the matter when the suggestion was thrown out.

Question—"That the Dáil agree with the Seanad in the amendment"— put and agreed to.
Message ordered to be sent to the Seanad accordingly.
