Vol. 14 No. 1

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - MIDLETON COMPENSATION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that Mr. James Moore, 38 Main Street, Midleton, Co. Cork, made application to his Department many months ago for compensation under the Indemnity Act, 1924, for goods and property destroyed and commandeered by armed forces; whether the claim has been investigated, and if payment of the sum claimed will be made at an early date.

No claim for goods and property destroyed and commandeered by armed forces has, so far as I can ascertain, been lodged under the Indemnity Act, 1924. There is a claim for £882 in respect of what appears to be consequential loss, but in the absence of fuller particulars corroborated by the various officers named in the claim the Committee will have no alternative but to rule upon the case as not coming within the section of the Act which empowers them to recommend compensation.
