Vol. 14 No. 2

As regards the question raised by the Minister in respect of the nomination, with the assent of the House, of the Minister for Education, though I may not be expressing the view of the House, my own view is that the long-continued tension and anxiety should be brought to an end as speedily as possible.

Can they get anybody to take it?

I do not know if I am to interpret that in the sense of making an immediate nomination, but I would be prepared to name to the Dáil now the President's nomination.

If the Minister nominates a person now he would have to get the assent of the Dáil.

The President asked me to nominate to the Dáil, on his behalf, Professor John Marcus O'Sullivan, T.D., to the Ministry of Education.

Does that nomination involve a seat on the Executive Council?

Yes, and the assent of the Dáil is required.

Must it be in the form of a motion?

I propose "That the Dáil assents to the nomination of Professor O'Sullivan as Minister for Education."

Motion put and agreed to.
