Vol. 14 No. 9

BUSINESS OF THE DAIL.

It is my intention to move, at the conclusion of business this evening, the adjournment of the Dáil until next Tuesday week.

Is the President prepared to make any suggestion regarding the School Attendance Bill? Is it his intention to postpone the discussion on that Bill until Wednesday week, if we do not complete the Committee Stage before two o'clock to-day?

I am in a difficulty in regard to private Deputies' business. I do not see present the Deputy responsible for the Shop Hours (Drapery Trades, Dublin and Districts) (Amendment) Bill, 1925. If the Dáil were agreeable not to take that Bill to-day, I would suggest, if no objection is raised, that we consider the School Attendance Bill until three o'clock, and then, at three o'clock, we could take Deputy Heffernan's motion —Item 6 on the Orders of the Day. I do not think the Shop Hours (Drapery Trades, Dublin and Districts) (Amendment) Bill will be much affected by that. I presume Deputy Heffernan would like his motion to be taken before the adjournment.

Has the President made any arrangement with Deputy Hennessy in regard to the Shop Hours (Drapery Trades, Dublin and Districts) (Amendment) Bill?

There is a difficulty in that respect, as Deputy Hennessy is not present. I venture to think that if Deputy Hennessy were here he would not oppose my suggestion.

I do not think it is right to trespass so much on the time allotted for private Deputies' business. This Bill will take only about five minutes; there is only one amendment.

In that case I have no objection to considering the Bill after three o'clock, when Deputy Heffernan's motion has been dealt with. I presume we may take it that Deputy Heffernan's motion will not occupy more than three-quarters of an hour. I think there should be some accommodation in that matter. If we could assume it would occupy that period, fifteen minutes would then be available for this Bill. I suggest that the Dáil should now take up the School Attendance Bill and that the consideration of it be not interrupted until three o'clock.

Ordered: That discussion on the Committee Stage of the School Attendance Bill be not interrupted until three o'clock.
The Dáil went into Committee.
