Vol. 14 No. 17

SUMMER TIME ORDER, 1926.

I move:—

"That the Dáil hereby approves of the Summer Time Order, 1926, made by the Minister for Justice under the Summer Time Act, 1925."

Deputies will remember that last year there was a discrepancy of a fortnight between the termination of Summer Time in the Saorstát and in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. As a result of that, serious inconvenience was caused to railway companies, and there was a certain amount of dislocation of postal services in the country. Complaints were made as to the hours of delivery. If this Order is endorsed by the Dáil and Seanad it will secure uniformity with the termination date in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and France, and bring us into line in the matter. There is no need to alter the date of commencement, which is the same in the Saorstát, Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Act passed last year was a permanent Act, leaving a certain elasticity as to dates which can be varied by a special resolution of this kind, provided the Order changing the date is endorsed by both Houses.

Question put and agreed to.
Order No. 2. Damage to Property (Compensation) (Amendment) Bill, 1926, Second Stage, discharged. To be taken on Friday, 26th instant.
The Dáil went into Committee on Finance.
