Vol. 15 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LIMERICK CLAIM FOR LANDS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state why the claim of Mrs. Moloney, Castleroberts, Adare, Co. Limerick, an evicted tenant from the lands of the Amery Estate, with her four sons, for portion of the lands when the estate was being divided was turned down, and if he is aware that it is stated that others without any claim living fifteen or twenty miles away got portions of the land.

Inquiries regarding the claim referred to are being made, but as these have not yet been completed I would ask the Deputy to be good enough to have the question repeated in a few days' time.

Is the Minister aware that six men were arrested in connection with the distribution of the estate, following an example that was shown them to create a disturbance, by reason of the fact that the Commissioners recently re-divided two estates and broke through the original scheme? I refer to the case of the Westhropp and another estate.

Mr. HOGAN

I do not think we could accept that as a defence.

It was by reason of the opposition to the scheme on these two estates that these men got the example.

Mr. HOGAN

I think it is unnecessary to say that illegal opposition is not going to be tolerated.

The opposition was successful in both of the other cases.
