Vol. 15 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ORDNANCE SURVEY DEPARTMENT REORGANISATION.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is in a position to state when the report of the Committee of Inquiry set up to deal with the reorganisation of the Ordnance Survey Department will be completed, and when it is expected that the reorganisation of that Department will be carried out.

I am not in a position to state when the report of the Committee of Inquiry into the Ordnance Survey will be completed. The Committee are at present investigating allegations as to numerous errors in levelling. This investigation is necessarily laborious. When it has been completed the Committee will be in a position to furnish their report. As regards the reorganisation of the Department, necessary preliminary inquiries, which can be made without waiting for the report, are in progress, but until the report has been received and considered it will not be possible to say by what date the reorganisation will take place.

Could the Minister remind the House of the date the Committee was first promised and the date it was set up?

I know that it is almost two years ago since it was first promised, but I do not remember the date when it was first set up.
