Vol. 15 No. 6

TRADE BOARDS SPECIAL ORDERS. - COACH BUILDING INDUSTRY—MOTION RE REMISSION OF CUSTOMS TAX ON MOTOR CHASSIS.

It was arranged that the other motion by a Private Deputy—Deputy Byrne's motion with regard to remission of Customs duty upon motor chassis upon which Irish-made bodies are to be built —should be taken this evening. The motion being a motion for the remission of taxation could be proposed as an amendment to the Finance Bill, if that were agreeable to Deputy Byrne. The question involved could, of course, be raised in the debate on the Report of one of the Budget Resolutions, because an arrangement has already been made that the general question of Protection could be raised on one of these Resolutions. If that would satisfy Deputy Byrne, this motion would not be necessary.

I am quite satisfied, as long as I can get an opportunity of bringing the matter forward.

Motion not moved.
