Vol. 16 No. 2

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - PROVISION OF YARDS (CLONBUR, CO. GALWAY).

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether any representations have been made to the Land Commission by the residents of the village of Clonbur, Co. Galway, appealing that portions of the Iveagh estate be acquired for the provision of backyards for the houses in the village, and if he will state what action has been taken, or is intended to be taken, as a result of the receipt of such representations.

Mr. HOGAN

Representations as mentioned have been received. It appears from the information before the Land Commission that Lord Iveagh gave land free to a fairs committee for the purpose of enlarging the fair and market-place and the committee appear to have given permission to seven persons to build houses on the plot. These persons apparently built the houses without consideration of the fact that the demesne walls forming the boundaries of the plot at rear of their lands gave no scope for adequate sanitation. The Land Commission have no power to acquire lands for the provision of sanitary accommodation.
