Vol. 16 No. 11

LAND BILL (No. 2), 1926—FIRST STAGE.

I ask leave to introduce a Bill entitled—

"An Act to amend the law relating to the occupation and ownership of land and for other purposes relating thereto."

Leave granted.

When will the Second Stage be taken?

Mr. HOGAN

Next Thursday.

Will the Minister be able to have the Second Stage this week?

Mr. HOGAN

To-morrow week.

Will the Minister be able to take the Second Stage on Tuesday?

Mr. HOGAN

I am merely consulting the wishes of the Dáil. This is a fairly long Bill, and I dare say Deputies would like to have it in their hands for some time before the Second Reading. The Bill will not be passed this Session—it could not be—hence I suggest Thursday in order to have it fully circulated.

Thursday is time enough.

A large number of people are at present very hard hit owing to the manner in which their land has been acquired. If this Bill is to amend the Land Act of 1923 with a view to facilitating people who have purchased land through the Land Bank, then the sooner it is introduced and in the hands of Deputies the better it will be for those people who have money invested in land.

Mr. HOGAN

It may not be in the hands of Deputies to-morrow. Perhaps Deputies would agree to have it, say, on the day after—Friday—in view of the fact that the Second Stage will not be until next Thursday.

Second Stage fixed for Thursday, 24th instant.
