Vol. 16 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CASTLETOWN ESTATE, LEIX.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he can state the present position regarding the proposed acquisition of the Castletown estate, Granstown Manor, Leix, and whether the Land Commission intend to acquire and divide same during the present year, or if not, whether he will give the reason why they cannot do so.

Mr. HOGAN

Particulars have been lodged for the tenanted portion of Lord Castletown's estate under the Land Act, 1923, and when the Commissioners are dealing with the estate in its order, inquiries will be made as to the untenanted lands thereon. I think these are demesne lands.

That is what I wished to get from the Minister. There is a dispute as to what portion of the Castletown estate is, or is not, demesne land.

Mr. HOGAN

Of course, that will be settled. If the Commissioners propose to acquire the lands the owners will put up that point. That is a question of law which will be settled on the proceedings. The lands have not been inspected yet.
