Vol. 16 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RELIEF OF CONGESTION AT COMMONS, NAVAN.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Land Commission to relieve the acute congestion existing at Commons, Navan, Co. Meath, and if it is intended to acquire the following estates for the relief of congestion at the Commons, viz.:—Commons, Mullaghbouy, U. 520, Buchanan Estate, Williamstown or Bawn, U. 521, Radcliffe Estate, Grange Bective, U. 518, Pentony Estate, Ballybatter or Balreask New estate of the late Julia Pentony, and if he will state when all or any of the said estates will be allotted.

Mr. HOGAN

1. The lands of Commons in Mullaghboy on the Buchanan estate have been gazetted for acquisition under the Land Act of 1923. Proceedings have not yet been completed, and it is not possible at present to state when the lands will be allotted. 2. Negotiations were instituted for the purchase of the lands of Williamstown or Bawn on the Radcliffe estate, but the terms offered by the Commissioners were not acceptable to the owner, and the question of further action is postponed pending proposed acquisition of other lands in the same locality. The Williamstown or Bawn lands were purchased under the Land Purchase Acts. 3. The lands of Bective appear to be held by the reps. of John S. Pentony as tenants on the estate of reps. of Henry Bolton. No particulars have been lodged for this estate under the Land Act, 1923. Inquiries are being made in this matter. 4. The question of the acquisition of the lands of Ballybatten or Balreask New on the Julia Pentony estate is at present under consideration.
