Vol. 16 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - THE SCOTT ESTATE (LEIX).

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he can state whether the Land Commission received an application from a number of uneconomic holders requesting the Commissioners to acquire the lands of James William Edmund Scott, Co. Leix (lands at Killeaney, Rathass, Record No. 1757), under the Land Act, 1923, and if he can now state whether the Commissioners are prepared to comply with the request or state the reasons why they are unable to do so.

Mr. HOGAN

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The Land Commission issued an offer for the purchase of 382 acres situate on the estate of J. W. E. Scott, a person of unsound mind (In Chancery), but the Chief Justice could not see his way to give liberty to his Committee to accept the offer, and the Land Commission are not prepared at present to take any further action in the matter.

Does the Minister's answer only apply to a certain proportion of this Scott estate? I think the answer he has given is not in accordance with the facts as recorded on the file. There was a previous mix-up with regard to this estate in a reply which I received.

Mr. HOGAN

The answer that I have given is in respect to 382 acres situate on the estate of J. W. E. Scott, a person of unsound mind. Obviously, that land would be in Chancery.

The estate of J. Edmund Scott is a different estate.

Mr. HOGAN

I am speaking of the estate of J.W.E. Scott.

Your reply, I think, refers to the portion of the land that is in Chancery, but what about the other portion of the estate?

Mr. HOGAN

I would have to make inquiries about that.
