Vol. 17 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SCHOOL ATTENDANCE ACT, 1926.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state what steps have been taken by his Department to put into force the provisions of the School Attendance Act, 1926.

The Act has been brought into force by Statutory Order in the areas mentioned in the Schedule to the Act, except the County Borough of Limerick, from 1st October last, and arrangements are being made for its enforcement in the remaining area of the Saorstát as from 1st January next.

Steps have been taken to divide the non-scheduled portion of the country into School Attendance Areas.

The statutory orders and forms, registers and records necessary for the effective enforcement of the Act are in course of preparation, and it is expected to have them completed at an early date.

Owing to the very considerable amount of preparation work involved, it was not found possible to fix 1st November as the date for the commencement in the non-scheduled area as was previously intended.
