Vol. 17 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TIME ALLOWED FOR QUESTIONS.

It being a quarter to four o'clock,

AN CEANN COMHAIRLE

Under the Standing Order we have now exhausted the time for questions. The questions which follow on the paper addressed to the Minister for Agriculture should strictly receive a written reply. I shall allow these questions to be answered to-day, but I want to point out to Deputies that if they ask long supplementary questions to the questions they put on the Paper, and, particularly, argumentative questions, the later questions on the Paper will not be reached in time for oral answer.

Perhaps, Sir, you would advise Ministers to answer the questions on the Paper?

AN CEANN COMHAIRLE

That is another point I am glad to have an opportunity of dealing with. I have no power to compel a Minister to answer a question. If I had the power it would be of no use to me.
