Vol. 18 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ARREARS OF LAND PURCHASE ANNUITIES.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether his attention has been called to the resolution passed at the last meeting of the County Dublin County Council requesting the Land Commission to stay all legal proceedings now pending against farmers in the county for the recovery of arrears of land purchase annuities, and, if so, whether in considering the request he will take into account the plea that the ability to pay the annuities in future will depend upon the ability to purchase seeds, manure, stock and pay wages this year.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. In particular cases full consideration will be given to the point involved in the second part of the question, but, as far as possible an effort will be made to see that the tenants who have paid their annuities shall not have their normal rates increased by the burden of unpaid land purchase annuities due by tenants who are unwilling to meet their legal obligations.
