Vol. 18 No. 8

ORDUITHE AN LAE. - ORDER OF BUSINESS.

In the absence of the Minister for Agriculture we will not take the Land Bill until after the Army Pensions Bill.

I understood that the business on the Order Paper would be taken as it appears. I presume that that will be followed because Deputies who are interested in the Land Bill are here and they may not be here in a few minutes.

In the absence of the Minister for Agriculture I can only suggest that we take the Juries Bill now and take the Land Bill before the Army Pensions Bill.

We have been taken short in this matter because three Bills have been passed over quite disorderly, and I think we should have a little time to consider the position.

An CEANN COMHAIRLE

I am prepared to give the Deputy all the time he requires but I am not prepared to accept his suggestion of disorderliness.

It is want of order.

Yes, but technically when a promise is made that the items will be taken as set out on the Order Paper, that does not amount to an Order of the House and, even if it did, the House can always vary it.
