Vol. 18 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLONAKILTY DRAINAGE WORKS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will re-consider the proposal to restore the existing drainage area at Clonakilty, County Cork, in view of the fact that the cost will not be excessive, and that much unemployment prevails in the town and district.

This district was inspected by an engineer in April, 1926, and on consideration of his report the Commissioners of Public Works decided not to restore it as the cost, estimated at £1,650, would be excessive as compared with the benefits that would result. Further, there are but two landowners in the district—one of whom objected to any works being carried out, whilst the other was not in a position to pay a drainage charge on his lands.
