Vol. 18 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - O'HARA ESTATE (WESTMEATH).

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to take over the lands of the O'Hara Estate, Morington, Crookedwood, Westmeath, for the relief of congestion amongst the large number of uneconomic holders and landless people in the district.

Mr. HOGAN

The lands referred to are demesne lands situate in the townlands of Morington and Knockbrody, County Westmeath, and are subject to a land purchase annuity. No proceedings are pending for the acquisition of these lands.

The Land Commission cannot touch them at all?

Mr. HOGAN

It looks like that.

Is the Minister aware that this district is congested, that there are over 100 people on uneconomic holdings and that there is no other land available?

Mr. HOGAN

I am not aware of that.

Will the Minister take steps to see if he can acquire this land even by migrating the owner?

Mr. HOGAN

It was decided not to acquire it.
