Vol. 19 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TRIM—BLACKBULL ROAD.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware of the increased volume of traffic over the Trim-Dublin road; and whether, in view of such increased traffic he will, in the interest of the ratepayers and road-users, cause that portion of the road between Trim and Blackbull to be placed on the schedule of trunk roads for the coming year; or, alternatively allocate a sum from the Road Fund to assist in the maintenance of this road.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. No additional roads can be added to the National Road Scheme, to which it is presumed the Deputy refers. The road in question is already a main road and as the grant of £12,725 notified to the County Surveyor on the 10th instant is available for the improvement of main roads it is open to the County Council to devote portion of the grant to the improvement of this, road. The County Council have also been notified of a grant amounting to 50 per cent. and 30 per cent. of the cost of the upkeep as distinct from the improvement of the main roads for the coming year.
