Vol. 19 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COMMANDEERING OF HORSES.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he can state the result of the inquiries (as promised on the 15th February, 1927) into the claim for compensation of Mr. A. Young, Barrack Lodge, Naas, Co. Kildare, for horses commandeered for service in the National Army in July, 1922, and whether he can expedite payment of compensation.

As the result of inquiries, it has now been ascertained that only one horse, the property of Mr. A. Young, was commandeered by National Forces, and retained for about six weeks. A draft for the payment of the hire of this animal has been issued to Mr. Young. In the absence of evidence of any injury to the horse while in Army possession, a claim therefor cannot be entertained.
