Vol. 19 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RECOUPMENT OF PROSECUTION EXPENSES.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has received a claim for recoupment in respect of witnesses and prosecutors' expenses for the period 1st October, 1923, to 31st March, 1926, amounting to £897 19s. 9d. from the County Council of Donegal; whether repeated requests for payment of this amount have not received acknowledgment, and whether the Minister is aware that interest on this amount is being paid by the County Council.

The claim in question was received by the Department of Finance on the 16th September last, and is now being audited by the Department of Local Government and Public Health. Two requests for payment of the claim were received subsequent to the 16th September, but were not acknowledged, as it was hoped at the time of their receipt that recoupment would be effected at a very early date. Delay in audit of the claim has occurred owing to the auditor having been engaged on very urgent and important work, but it is understood that the audit will be completed before the end of the month. There has been no delay in dealing with the claim in the Department of Finance.
