Vol. 19 No. 15

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SAORSTAT SAILORS AND WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION ACTS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a sailor, resident in the Saorstát, who meets with an accident, while employed on a British ship, cannot obtain compensation under the Workmen's Compensation Acts in the Courts established by the Saorstát, and if it is intended to take any steps to remedy the matter.

The position in this matter was fully explained by me in reply to a question by Deputy Johnson on the 25th of January last. Before reciprocal arrangements with Great Britain can be made legislation will be necessary and such legislation, based generally on the Report of the Departmental Committee on Workmen's Compensation, is now being prepared.
