Vol. 19 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PUBLIC CRICKET GROUNDS.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make arrangements for the restoration of the Public Cricket Grounds convenient to the Wellington Monument in Phoenix Park, and if he will state whether any efforts have been made to meet the growing demand for cricket grounds and tennis courts in the Park.

As stated on the 10th March 1926 in reply to a similar question, the demand for cricket facilities was not found to be sufficient to justify the maintenance of the Public Cricket Ground, and the surrounding fence which was falling into disrepair, was accordingly removed. The ground has not been allocated to any other purpose, but it forms part of the open park and it is not considered that any sufficient reason has been shown for reenclosing it. No objection is made to the playing of cricket on the ground. The question of providing a few tennis courts in the Park is being considered by the Commissioners of Public Works.
