Vol. 19 No. 25

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - STATUS OF PRISON WARDERS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is a fact that a number of temporary warders in the Saorstát Prisons Service, who were transferred from the British Government, have since the date of their transfer been appointed permanent and pensionable warders, and, if so, if he can say whether those officers are entitled, as permanent officers, to claim the rights conferred on transferred officers by Article 10 of the Treaty.

I am aware that a number of temporary warders in the prisons service who were transferred to the Saorstát at the time of the change of Government have since then been appointed to be permanent and pensionable warders. The question of rights, if any, to which these officers are entitled under Article 10 of the Treaty can only be determined when arrangements for dealing with Article 10 claims generally have been made on consideration of the circumstances of each individual case in which a claim for compensation is preferred.
