Vol. 21 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LEITRIM TURBARY RIGHTS.

asked the Minister for Fisheries what steps the Land Commission have taken to divide the Aughnasheelan Bog on the Pritchard-Raynor Estate, County Leitrim, amongst the tenants, and if he is aware that law proceedings are threatened against tenants who refuse to pay until they get turbary rights.

The Land Commission are unable to trace any bog named Aughnasheelan on any Pritchard-Raynor Estates, and the name does not appear in the Townland Index. There is turbary in the Townland of Aghlin (on Pritchard-Raynor Estate, E.C. 5983) on which tenants, including tenants on other Pritchard-Raynor Estates, have turbary rights. This turbary has not yet been divided, and the Land Commission have decided to make regulations under Section 21 of the Act of 1903 defining the plots on which the tenants are to cut. The available area of turf is small and the number of persons claiming rights very large. All proceedings for recovery of arrears of annuities from persons affected by the above matter have been stayed for the present.
