Vol. 21 No. 10

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - REPLANTING OF TREES IN MAYO.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture when he may be able to have the replanting of forest trees taken in hand in the townlands of Tavnynah and Balnalyra, Charlestown, Co. Mayo, containing about 50 acres, and if he is aware that trees on these woods are being illegally cut own, destroyed and taken away, and that no replacement has been made up to the present.

Mr. HOGAN

As no land in the townlands referred to has been acquired by the Forestry Division of the Department of Agriculture for afforestation purposes, the replanting of forest trees there does not come within the Department's purview. I have no information as to the matters referred to in the concluding portion of the question. I understand, however, that the lands in question were formerly in the hands of the Congested Districts Board, and in the circumstances I would refer the Deputy to the Minister for Fisheries for information on the points raised.
