Vol. 21 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COMMANDEERED MOTOR CAR.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that a motor car belonging to Joseph O'Reilly, Frenchpark, County Roscommon, was commandeered by two officers of the National Army on or about the 13th day of July, 1922, was kept by them about 18 days and returned in very bad repair at Strokestown Barracks, and whether he is aware that no compensation was paid either for the use of the car or for damage done to it, and whether he will investigate the case and recommend suitable compensation without further delay.

An application was received from Mr. O'Reilly for compensation in respect of a Ford motor car alleged to have been damaged while in the possession of the National Forces in July, 1922. His claim was fully considered, and it was decided that no payment on foot thereof could be made from Army funds. He was so informed on the 3rd April, 1924, and again on the 31st January last.
