Vol. 21 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - VESTING OF ROSCOMMON LANDS.

asked the Minister for Fisheries can he state why portion of the lands on the Popham Estate, Boyle, County Roscommon, have not been vested in the tenants who are paying interest in lieu of rent for thirteen years, and also, why the road which accommodates some fifty residents there, and on which the Congested Districts Board expended upwards of £1,000, has never been completed, and will he see that these two urgent matters get immediate attention.

The delay in completing the road referred to was due to the refusal of certain tenants to allow the Land Commission to enter the holdings in their occupation for the purpose of carrying out the necessary work. The Land Commission have recently taken compulsory proceedings under Section 5 of the Act of 1881 with a view to completing the road. Sixteen holdings have been vested, and the holdings at present remaining to be vested will be dealt with as soon as practicable.
