Vol. 21 No. 17

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - DELAY IN MAIL DELIVERIES.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he will take steps to restore the daily delivery of mails in the district of Kilglass, County Roscommon, and whether he is aware that delay in the delivery of the mails causes very great inconvenience.

The question of affording a more frequent delivery in the Kilglass district, County Roscommon, has already received very careful consideration, but the amount of correspondence for delivery would not justify the heavy additional expenditure which the increased frequency would involve.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the great inconvenience caused to the people of the town of Foxford (County Mayo), where there is an important woollen factory, by reason of the great delay in the delivery of letters, etc., from Ballina to Foxford, a distance of only nine miles, and if he is aware that it takes two days for that delivery, and if he will see that this is remedied as soon as possible.

The Deputy is under a misapprehension. Correspondence for Foxford posted at Ballina up to 5.15 p.m. is included in the general night mail despatch and falls into the deliveries at Foxford commencing at 6.30 a.m. (Rural), 7.30 a.m. (Town) next morning.
