Vol. 22 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - KILKENNY OLD AGE PENSION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether a Mrs. Mary Downey (Kenny), of Connahy, made a claim for an old age pension to the Ballyragget Pension Sub-Committee, and in the absence of a baptismal certificate which was not available, submitted three affidavits from farmers all over the age of 70 years, testifying to their belief that the applicant was well over 70 years old: and whether the sub-committee passed her claim for eight shillings a week, and if the Pension Officer appealed against the said decision on the grounds of age, and whether the Minister, in his decision, decided that the claimant was not entitled to any pension; whether, seeing that the applicant made every effort to secure documentary evidence of age, he will explain what evidence the Department secured to disprove the affidavits made on claimant's behalf.

The facts are as stated in the Deputy's question. The statements made did not convince that the claimant had attained the statutory age and the claim was disallowed on the 2nd instant.
