Vol. 22 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RAILWAY COMPANY'S PENSIONERS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that it is the practice of the Great Southern Railways Company in the case of ex-employees in receipt of pensions to reduce the pensions of such pensioners as become entitled to the old age pension by the amount of the latter, and to ask whether he will introduce proposals for legislation to prevent this practice.

The pensions referred to in the question are those granted voluntarily to ex-employees by the Great Southern Railways Company. They are not given in discharge of any obligation, legal or otherwise, and I do not consider that it would be reasonable to introduce legislation controlling or varying the conditions attached thereto.
