Vol. 22 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MANUFACTURE OF BEET SUGAR—TECHNICAL CLASSES.

Mr. F.H. CROWLEY

asked the Minister for Education whether any technical classes, relating to the manufacture of beet sugar, were held in the Saorstát by the Department of Technical Instruction prior to the opening of the Carlow Beet Sugar Factory, and, if so, whether he will state how many of the workers in this factory took advantage of these classes.

MINISTER for EDUCATION (Professor O'Sullivan)

Technical classes are not held by the Department of Education, but by the local Technical Instruction Committee. No proposals for such classes were made by the Carlow Joint Technical Instruction Committee, prior to the opening of the Carlow Sugar Beet Factory. I am not clear as to what particular class or classes of workers the Deputy has in mind who might have been benefited by courses in a technical school specially designed for workers in a sugar beet factory and held prior to the opening of the factory.
