Vol. 22 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RE-OPENING OF ATHY HOSPITAL.

Mr. GEORGE WOLFE

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will consider the possibility of re-opening the Hospital in Athy, as the distance to the nearest hospital constitutes a great hardship in the case of the aged poor, and grave danger in the matter of serious and urgent cases.

MINISTER for LOCAL GOVERNMENT and PUBLIC HEALTH (General Mulcahy)

As the Kildare Board of Health and Public Assistance have now decided that the County Hospital will be retained at Naas and as this is some distance from Athy I am prepared to agree to the establishment of a small hospital in Athy. The further necessary steps in the matter are now being taken.
