Vol. 22 No. 5

WRITTEN QUESTIONS. - LETTING OF FALCARRAGH GRAZING LAND.

Mr. HUGH A. LAW

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that for a number of years past certain householders of Falcarragh, County Donegal, have been renting a portion of the grazing land of Ballyconnell Demesne, on which they are wholly dependent for the feeding of their milch cows; if he will explain why in an agreement lately submitted for their signature in respect of the current year, there has been inserted for the first time a provision enabling the Office of Works on one month's notice to terminate the letting at any time it may deem expedient; and whether he can give an assurance that in no circumstances will the letting actually be terminated during the course of the current season.

Mr. BLYTHE

Mr. Law presumably refers to the licence by the Commissioners of Public Works for grazing the Cloughaneely Field at Colaiste Brighde for the eleven months ending 30th November next. This licence was sent for signature on 25th January, 1928, to the parties taking the grazing and contained a provision that, if the lands were required for the Public Service during the period, it could be determined by the Commissioners on one month's notice, in which event an apportioned part of the rent was to be refunded. This is a usual clause in grazing agreements made by the Commissioners, and last year, which was the first year this land was set by the Commissioners, the same parties signed an agreement containing the same clause.
