Vol. 22 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CONDITIONS OF IRISH RACING.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has yet received the report of the committee appointed to investigate the present condition of Irish racing; if so, whether he is now in a position to state the Government's intentions on the subject; and, if not, whether he can give a definite date when a decision will be announced.

I have not yet received the report of the committee appointed to investigate the present condition of Irish racing, but I am given to understand that the report will be ready during this week.

It would be impossible to fix a definite date for announcing the Government's decision on the subject until the character and extent of the recommendations of the committee are known, but I can repeat my assurance that there will be no avoidable delay in coming to a decision on the matter or in announcing that decision when arrived at.

Is the Minister aware of the great urgency that exists in connection with this matter and of the fact that if a very early decision is not made the provincial meetings will suffer very severely and that a very considerable number of them will decide not to apply for dates to hold meetings?

I am aware that the matter is urgent.
